crossing Dakota
This series of photos, of which these are a part, is the result of a realization I had while crossing (North) Dakota by train on a rainy September day. It struck me that while North Dakota is arguably the least spectacular state in the union, it was nevertheless presenting me as it flowed past the South facing window on my West bound train with an ever changing and engaging mosaic of shape and color. While North Dakota is a "Plains" sate, certainly a "plain" state it is not. I see this work as a meditation on the "Plain". By presenting it as a series of sequential diptychs I am placing the viewer in the fleeting space between the past which already had, and the past which was just arriving.
